Monsters in Taiwan- the Snake Groom

The story of Snake Groom is also a very famous folk story in Taiwan. Interestingly, his story has many similarities with the one of "The Beauty and the Beast".

The story begins with the snake catching one old man picking his flower in his garden. Out of rage, he threatened the elderly to give him one of his daughters as his bride, or he would eat him up. Frustrated and depressed, the old man Arrived at his home and told the news to his three daughters. although he begged his children to save him, the older sisters only blamed him for his stupidity. Finally, the youngest one agreed to marry the monster and came to the garden alone. To her surprise,  her husband was not only a handsome young man but also a rich gentleman. Thus, they lived in happiness even after. But in another version, the story has more exciting and complicated plots. When the oldest sister found out her sister enjoying her married life, she became jealous and wanted to steal her sweet life. To achieve the goal, she visited her sister and then killed her. Next, she disguised as her sister and lived with the Snake. However, after a few days, the Snake noticed his Wife's strangeness, and he found out the truth. In anger, he killed his sister-in-law and revived his wife. In the end, they lived in peace and love again.
