Monsters in Taiwan-the Tiger Aunt
Tiger Aunt is a famous character in Taiwanese folk stories. Although there are many versions of the story, this "aunt" is always seeking the chance to eat children alone.
Interestingly, only female tigers have the ability to transform into human form. Usually, they have these characteristics in common. First of all, they look like a kind old lady. Second, they only appear in the mountains. In the end, they pretend to be relatives they have never seen before. Once they enter the house, they will ask the children to sleep with her so that she can eat in bed leisurely. However, they are destined to die in pain, because older children are smart enough to definitely come up with an idea of deceiving them and killing them.I think this role is not only to warn the children not to believe in strangers but also to show our ancestors' fear of this beast. However, at the end of the story, the tiger aunt is always killed by a smart child. Although people are afraid of beasts, they still think that their wisdom can protect themselves. I think this is because we humans are proud of ourselves, even though our bodies are fragile.
